Red Osier Dogwood is a wetland shrub with attractive, red twigs and small, white berries which are eaten by a variety of birds and mammals. These berries ripen in late summer. This shrub spreads by stolon and is a good species for erosion control. After a long winter, Red Osier Dogwood provide a great sign that spring has arrived and the ground is thawing, because its stems turn a vibrant red color.
