Typical adjectives for White Oak include "preeminent", "stately", and "majestic". It is a native staple in hardwood forests across the eastern US. While Red Oak fills the main oak niche in our area, We have been encouraging its planting for several years due to its lesser susceptibility to oak wilt and it seems to be doing well in upland locations. White Oaks have rounded leaf lobes. Oaks provide valuable timber, shade, habitat, and a very important "hard mast" late-season food source for deer and other mammals. This slow-to-medium growth tree has a straight trunk and a wide, open crown. Although White Oak is less susceptible to oak wilt it is still recommended to prune this oak during the dormant season, and avoid pruning April-July.
